NNPC Pipeline Explodes In Lagos, Scores Feared Dead

 
A petroleum pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, at Ijedodo area of Lagos State, exploded on Thursday evening.

The number of casualties could not be ascertained, though scores of suspected pipeline vandals were feared killed in a massive inferno that erupted from the explosion.
It was gathered by Vanguard that the suspected pipeline vandals had surrounded the place around 6pm and were scooping petroleum product into jerrycans.
As they were scooping the petroleum product, an argument was said to have ensued among them.
One of them reportedly ignited the fire that caused a massive explosion that set the entire area on fire.
According to the residents of Ijedodo and Abulado areas who witnessed the incident, they immediately called on the authorities to come and put out the fire.
The incident was confirmed by the South West spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye.
He said: “There was pipeline explosion at Ijeododo this evening (Thursday). Vandals were suspected to have broken the pipeline, scooping the product and in the process the pipeline exploded.”
