Explosion rocks Gombe, 23 killed

  
   
It was a lack Friday in Gombe State yesterday as 23 persons were feared dead after explosives rocked a motor park in the metropolis.
The explosive was believed to have been planted in a bus inside the everbusy Gombe Line Motor Park in the state capital.
The tragic incident occurred around 10:00a.m. A Gombe resident who was at the scene when the explosion occurred, identified as Bello Sule, claimed said he saw 23 corpses being transported to different hospitals in the state capital.
The eye witbness also claimed that over twelve 18-seater buses belonging of the state government transport company were completely destroyed.
In a reaction, Gombe State Police Commissioner, Abdullahi Kudu Nma, told reporters later at the scene of the incident that only nine people were confirmed dead. The police commissioner also said that three people were arrested while trying to run away from the scene of the incident.
He said the three arrested person had parked a bus with Yobe State plate number and later brought out a luggage from where a substance also exploded some few minutes after the earlier explosion.
In the words of the police commissioner, “For now, three suspects have been apprehended and we are reasonably suspecting they are the people who brought in the Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
“Either the vehicle wass parked laden, we cannot determine now until our EOD make their investigation to determine that very particular vehicle mentioned that is already parked with IED or they came in the way they did in Azare last week”.
As at the time of filing this report, police and other security agents cordoned the area while Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo was scheduled to visit the scene of the incident.
