Okorocha swears in Mbakwe’s daughter, others as commissioners

   
 
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, yesterday swore in seven new commissioners, including the daughter of the late Governor Sam Mbakwe, Patience, and seven new local government caretaker committee chairmen.
The new commissioners and local government caretaker committee chairmen were appointed to replace their predecessors who had left the government to pursue their political ambitions.
The commissioners were also given portfolios by the governor at the end of their swearing-in. Chief Chidi Ibe is the new commissioner for information and strategy, Ms Patience Mbakwe (Industry and Non-formal Sector), Mr. Victor Ogbonna Amadi (Commerce and Market Development), Mr Ikechukwu Njoku (Finance), Mr. Clinton Obinyom (Public Utilities and Public Safety) and Mrs. Mma Nzeribe (Primary, Secondary and Nonformal Education). Obinna Mbata’s portfolio in unclear as at press time.
The local government transition committee chairmen sworn in were those of Owerri North, Owerri West, Owerri Municipal, Ahiazu Mbaise, Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru East.
Addressing the new appointees, the governor stated that he had released N3bn for the renovation of all the local government headquarters in the state, adding that the council secretariats were left over the years to rot.
He also said that his administration would begin to renovate the old schools in the state, especially Government Technical College, Owerri, Government College, Owerri and Akwakuma Girls School.
He charged the appointees to work hard, stressing that standard had already been set in their respective ministries and local governments, which they had to follow.
The governor urged them to work hard and improve on the existing standard. He also told those in attendance at the event that the governorship aspirants in Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in the state came out in their large numbers having learnt that he would vie for the presidency. Okorocha assured that he would not abandon or leave Imo people.
He said his government would not rest on its oars until he was satisfied that every family in the state was free from ignorance and poverty.
